留学で学士や修士の資格を取得したい場合、大学しか選択肢にない方も多いかもしれません。実際、大学では幅広い分野で学部や修士コースが開講されており、自分の興味に合ったコースを選ぶことができます。
しかし、オーストラリアの大学留学でネックとなるのは、その学費の高さ。ローカルの学生に比べて留学生は3-4倍も高い学費が設定されており、学部・修士コースは年間で$30,000-$40,000（100円換算で300-400万円）が相場となっています。
日本とは制度が異なるためあまり知られていませんが、オーストラリアでは州立・私立専門学校（カレッジ）でも大学同様に学士や修士の学位が取得可能です。
しかも年間の学費の相場は$16,000-$28,000と（100円換算で160-280万円）、大学にくらべて100万円以上も安い金額に抑えられます。

卒業後も長期滞在可能な卒業ビザは取得できる？
大学卒業と同様に、私立専門学校・カレッジでもBachelor/Masterコースを卒業して要件を満たせば、卒業生ビザによって卒業後も2年間の滞在が可能になります。
つまり、バチェラーコースであれば大学3年間+卒業ビザ2年間で最大5年間の滞在が可能となります。
永住権の取得はそこからさらに厳しい条件を満たす必要がありますが、滞在期間が長ければ長いほど、現地就労の可能性や永住権獲得のチャンスも大きくなりますので、これは嬉しいポイントですね。
大学ではなく、カレッジで学位を取得するデメリットは？
大学に比べて学費が安い代わりに、一般的に私立カレッジ（州立カレッジのTAFE除く）のキャンパスは小さく、オフィスビルの中にあることが多いです。そのため、キャンパス内の設備は、大学と比べると限られてしまいます。
また、専門学校で選択できる分野はほとんどがビジネス系、医療看護系、IT系などに限られるため、大学よりも選択肢が少なく、自分の興味に合ったコースが見つけにくいということもあります。
しかし、自分の興味のあるコースがあり、そうしたデメリットが特に気になず、とにかく安く滞在して学位を取得したい！という人にとっては、カレッジでの学位取得は学費を大幅に抑えることができ、卒業後の計画も立てやすくなります。
